Rahu and Ketu are considered to be the two parts of the demon Rahu lying axially in opposite directions and dividing the zodiac in two equal parts. When all the planets lie on one side of the axis the configuration is called kaal sarp Yog. Some are of the opinion that Rahu should invariably be in the first six signs of the birth chart. If the ascendant id Virgo, rahu should falls in the signs Cancer to Leo, Another implication of this is that there should be no planet in the signs occupied by the nodes. There are still others who hold that we should include the three extra Saturnian planets Uranus, Neptune and Pluto also. Some eminent astrologers believe that the kaal sarp Yog if formed when the planets are on one side of the axis and that is immaterial whether some of them are with Rahu or Ketu irrespective the houses occupied by them.

The only restriction to them is that the longitudes of the planets should not exceed the longitudes of the nodes. According to our modest experience, the kaal sarp Yog is formed and does not have its effect irrespective of the houses occupied by the nodes, for Rahu is the Karmik agent (outlet/distribution) and its position is immaterial in the birth chart. Our study of the kaal sarp Yog indicates that the Yoga is not particular for a class or society. It may appear in the charts of very ordinary as well as of dignifies persons. This may mean some important diversion in the course of their lives. The reason may be different for different persons. The world is an integrated whole. A change at one place shall have its effects on some other parts of the world. As a Rudra Rahu has to oversee the operation of the law of evolution as well as the law of the Karmas and retribution. There may be a need of suspension of operation of other combination for the time being because:

1. The operation of the Yogas is not in the interest of the law of Evolution at a particular moment.

The disposition of the planets and the signs in various i.e. the twelve houses and the strength of the houses and the planets and many other such points leave unfailing effect on the native. Mentioned below are few such Astrological combination that trouble the native very strongly and he suffers in different ways:

1. When Rahu and Moon are conjunct in Lagna in the natal horoscope, the native is always troubled by his misconception. He always feels as if somebody can give him losses in different ways or otherwise he is always depressed, stressed and mentally unrest.


2. When Lagna is Aries, Scorpio, Cancer or the Sagittarius sign and Mars & Jupiter are conjunct in Lagna, whereas Rahu is placed in the fifth house conjunct with Mars and Mercury or the fifth Rahu is aspected by the planet Mars or ercury or Rahu is in the fifth house without any conjunction, then the son of the native suffers unavoidable troubles or the native himself is dragged in a criminal case or undergoes heavy pains.


3. When in Kaalsarp Yog Rahu is conjunct with Venus also, the native is having child trouble i.e. not having children, his children trouble him, or his children face troubles.


4. When Lagna and the Lagna lord both are afflicted besides having Kaalsarp Yog the native remains physically unfit as also mentally disturbed.


5. When no any planet exists in the preceding and the succeeding house of the natal Moon besides having Kaalsarp Yog or no planet exists in kendras from Lagna or the natal Moon, the native is mainly having financial crisis i.e. his financial state is very miserable.


6. When Jupiter is conjunct with Rahu the native has to face misfortune in many ways.

9. When Rahu is conjunct with the planet Mercury or say ‘Jaddatar Yog’ is present in the horoscope, it increases his economical & social problems. It affects his financial status adversely.

23. When Venus is placed in ‘Malavaya Yog’ i.e. the planet Venus lies in either of the four quadrants in its exalted or own sign and is not conjunct with or aspected by an inauspicious planet the adverse effects of kaal sarp are not attained or it gives only average malefic results.


24. When planet Saturn is in ‘Shash’ Yog i.e. Shani is placed in either quadrants in its exalted or his own sign without having the aspect or conjunction of any malefic planet or the lord of inauspicious house, the unfavourable results of the Kaal sarp Yog are not visible. It reduces down the adverse results of Kaal sarp Yog.


25. When Moon-Mars conjunction exists in quadrants in own sign or their exaltation signs and this conjunction is neither aspected by or conjunct with any malefic planet, then all the troubles caused by Kaal sarp Yog are turned down.


26. When Rahu is placed in non-visible houses i.e. first to sixth and other planets are in visible houses i.e. the remaining six houses then this Kaal sarp Yog is said to be prosperity giving.


27. When Rahu is placed in the sixth house and Jupiter is in Lagna or the tenth house, the native enjoys wealthy position in life. He is not having any financial problems.

Shani Mahadasha /Sani(Saturn) : 19 years period of hard work, sincerity and disipline

This is the 19 years time period of hard work and persistence. Saturn emphasizes on strict discipline and labor by creating delays and difficulties and added responsibilities on the person. In short, this time period enables a person to lay the foundation to become strong and efficient, and reap the rewards in coming years.

If the Saturn is well placed, it brings honor, authority and prosperity as a result of one`s work. In case it is afflicted, the time period brings major difficulties, sorrows and frustrations. Bone diseases, fractures, skin problems, rheumatism also come in the play as ill effects of the Dasha.

There are total 12 signs. Sade Sati is a relative position of your sign where Moon is posited in your birth chart (Moon Sign or Rashi) and the current position of Saturn (Shani).

The currently planetary position is called Transit position or Gochar position in astrological terminology. When Saturn is transiting through the 12th, 1st, and 2nd house from the natal (birth) moon, this is termed as Sade-sati.

Sate-sati starts when Saturn (Shani) enters the 12th sign from the birth Moon and ends when Saturn leaves 2nd sign from the birth



Moon. “Sade-sati” literally means 7 ½ i.e. ‘seven and a half’. Saturn stays 2 ½ years on an average in a sign. So, in three signs combined, Saturn stays for 7 ½ and hence it is called Sade-sati.

Similarly, when Saturn passes through the 4th house from the birth moon, it is supposed to give negative results. This position of Saturn is called Ardha Sade-sati (Half-Sade-sati) or Dhaiya, Panoti, or Adhayia. Some people consider the transit of Saturn from the 5th house of the natal moon as negative because it affects the quality of one’s judgment.

When Saturn passes through the 8th house from the natal moon, it is called Astham Sani (8th Saturn). This 8th house transit is considered equally negative like the Sade-sati transit.

Sade-sati is very much hyped by Vedic astrologers and this period of seven and a half year is said to be very inauspicious. According to some, this is a period with many challenges, some unforgettable. People passing through the period of Sade-sati, people may encounter road accidents, fractures, sudden falls from high positions, acute shortage of money, serious health problems and so on. Person passing through Sade-sati is prescribed various remedies and pariharas like mantra, japa, donation, and havan etc.

There are total 12 signs and as Saturn takes 2 ½ years to pass one sign, Saturn takes total 30 years for pass through all the 12 signs. Out of each 30 years, 7 ½ year are taken by sade-sati. If we include Dhaiya also, out of 30 years 12 ½ years are affected by Sade-sati and Dhaiya. If we also include 5th house and 8th house, we can add another 5 years which means out of each 30 years 17 ½ years are considered inauspicious due to Saturn transit.

There are two reasons for the existence of Sade-sati. First, astrologers need some ways by which they can scare people and make money. By associating Sade-sati with Saturn, it is easy to scare poor people and make money in by suggesting gemstones and performing remedies for them. Sade-sati, like Kalsarpa dosha, is a good way for astrologers and pundits to make money.

Secondly, astrologers who don’t understand astrology need some ways to explain bad events astrologically. As we have seen above, out of every 30 years, 17 ½ years are classified problematic by astrologers so they can easily blame Saturn for any problem in life. This is nothing but sheer lack of astrological knowledge.

Sadesati is a transit like any other, but if Sani is afflicted in your chart, you will face great challenges.

Chant daily (9X) the gayatri of Sani “SANAISHARYA WIEDMEHE, MEHAADEVAAJE DHIEMEHIE, TENNO SANIDEV PRACHODAYAAT“. This mantra is one of the best there is. Sani will be very pleased when you acknowledge him as “mehaadevaaje”. Try it, you won’t regret it.
